Paris Is Burning

I keep on telling people about this film - a compelling account of the black homosexual/transsexual community of New York in the 1980s. The invention of vogueing, fabulous dress Balls, and the social and psychological realities behind the joy.

If you don't like it, it's your fault.

FRIEZE

This Thursday, Frieze is back.

Until Sunday 16th October, Britain's largest contemporary art fair will host 170 galleries from across the world, everything between up-and-coming artists from Asia and heavyweights like Hirst or Kapoor.

As usual, "good business is the best art". But Frieze is a spectacle worth the visit - including a plethora of workshops, installations, a sculpture garden, and some of the best people watching anywhere.

I'm going to tomorrow's preview to take some photos and review. In anticipation, here some of the artists I am most looking forward to.

Stephan Balkenhol, Sempre piu, 2009

Francis Alÿs, Paradoxy of Praxis, 1997

Ryan McGinley, Somewhere Place, 2011
